ALMOST SINGLE

This is about an interesting book i just happened to read ..."Almost Single" by Advaita Kala. Its a rather hilarious book with a whacky sense of humour. The story relates to a 29 yrs old SINGLE ( guess matches my biography) girl ( or woman according to the world). She lives a carefree life, takes her own decisions, parties, shops to her own will but is always tormented by the society and not to forget the typical filmi mother by one question ' when will you get married'. Not that she does not want to get married....coz she tries all the means from tantrics to matrimonial sites to find her Mr. Right, until she meets one ( just by chance). As she juggles between her job ( with a sulking boss), friends and her love life she is confused at climax of the story is she really ready for marriage yet?
Putting in some interesting paras from the book -
  • For most ppl life and love are like a game of ' connect -the -rite -dots'.the numbers always form a staight line to the goal. The result is a perfect picture. For the lesser half - especially those who inhabit my world- the vision is a blur of blots and splotches and there is no straight line to speak of.
  • Sometimes life is like a book. You can get so desperate to reach the end of the story that you conviently skip a couple of chapters. However when you do get to the end, you're left with this icky restless feeling and you know that you need to go back to those missing chapters before you can close the book.
  • Nina maasi asking me the same question, ' so beta, when will you give us some good news' As i was at work pre-occupied, i had a gazillion reasons to say, ' Well, I'm pregnant !' ( i loved this statement to get the mouths shut)
  • In some disco-music-blaring corner of every gym, wherever in the world it is, you'll find a damsel in calorific distress revealing her woes to teh the one person who is paid to listen.
  • Dating is so expensive not just for men. With men, its all the obivious costs like gas bills, dinner bills etc. With women there are so many hidden costs - new clothes, regular salon visits, waxing your legs, doing your eyebrows, colouring you hair, new shoes etc.... When you start dating some1 the frequency and intensity multiply, unfortunately the income does not!

Finally after i am done with the book i feel somebody has spoken my heart out. plz ppl can you leave us singles alone till we find the right match for us.

  7. Indian chick-lit is officially in, that too with a bang! The latest I heard is that Advaita Kala is snapping up awesome offers from Bollywood. She's currently writing the screenplay for Priyanka Chopra starrer Anjaana Anjaani or something like that.

About this book, I read this book ages ago and totally loved it.It's a hilarious, saucy book. I think your review could have captured some of that spirit, just a constructive suggestion from my end. Keep writing!
